WPGC Double Action: Match Cancellarion

It doesn’t appear that tomorrow will be a “soaker” but it looks like there will be rain off and on all day starting early in the morning and continuing through Friday. I’m going to call this one off and hope for better weather next month. There is a fifth Sunday this month, so maybe we can get in an extra DA later in the month.

Thanks, Leo

Sunday’s match with Mattaponi Sundowners

Howdy All,

Attached are the stages for Sunday’s match. This match will be the last match to dust off the cobwebs before Thunder In The Brush.  The weather seems to be looking good for Sunday, as they are saying right now.

Gates will open at 1000, safety meeting at 1200 and shooting starts at 123o.

We hope to see y’all there.

Let’s get this out of the way first. The weather guessers said it was going to be cloudy….wrong. Slim should have set up tents. Sorry!!

Twelve shooters came out to enjoy the fun. George new to our group shot only the rifle stages.

Don Fenton    Open Winner
Vaquero Gambler    Limited Winner

Thanks to all for helping with setup and teardown.

We will do it all again on June 1, 2022.

See ya down on the range,

Mattaponi Sundowners: sad news and prayer request

Howdy All,

I just got a call from Tracker Tom’s wife, he passed away suddenly this morning. She says that he was fine up to the time that he passed away. He was a great guy with a big heart. He will be missed.

There will not be a service, per his request. His wife did request prayer. Please keep her and the family in your prayers and thoughts.

Sassy

Smoke on the Mattaponi

Attention all Cowboys and Cowgirls,

The Mattaponi Sundowners are hard at work getting ready to present the SASS Virginia State Blackpowder Shootout “Smoke on the Mattaponi”! This is a one day six stage match taking place on Saturday June 25 at the West Point Gun Club. We will shoot all six stages then enjoy a picnic lunch (included in the match fee) catered by Nick’s restaurant. Attached is the match registration form and also a sponsorship application if you would like to be a sponsor of this match. Additional information is available on our website www.westpointgunclub.com. As I have done in the past I can provide shotgun ammo for anyone who would like to participate but does not have shotgun reload equipment.

After lunch if there is enough interest I plan to offer a one stage Plainsman mini side match. Attached is a description of this competition from the SASS handbook. I have percussion pistols and a qualifying rifle for anyone that wishes to participate to use. I will even load and cap the pistols for anyone that wishes to participate. Of course if you have your own you are welcome to use them. Since percussion pistols do not fit in every holster we will start with the pistols staged on the prop. The same will apply for the rifle ammo. If you do not have the thumb strength to cock the pistol one handed you can use the other hand to help as long as that hand is removed and the pistol is fired one handed. Yes, I am trying to eliminate any excuses.

Please come out and join us for a fun filled, smoke filled day!

Thank you,

Potter County Kid

P.S. If you have access to a cowboy group email I ask that you please forward this letter for me. Thank you.

THE PLAINSMAN

Mattaponi Sundowners:

Howdy All,

Well, I’m going to start out by apologizing to everyone for today. I should have divided us into 2 posses but I was lazy and didn’t have the 2nd computer set up (wouldn’t have taken that long to do) and didn’t want to take the extra time to make up the posses with TO, workers and balance shooting times per posse. This was ALL my fault and I apologize. I will do better next time.

Congrats to Doc Pill Filler as Overall Match winner. Congrats to Doc Pill Filler, One Eyed Jane, Prairie City Slim and Swifty McDraw for shooting CAD.

Happy Birthday to Poney Racer.  We wish everyone safe travel and a great match at Father Time.

WPGC Spring Work Day

WPGC members,

I would like to thank the members who recently participated in our range work day this past Saturday. They are:

Frank Timpano, Terry Stephenson. These two individuals were unable to attend on Saturday so they worked on Friday. Pat Graves, Gary Graves, Franz Kitenko, Jean Claude Idrici, Bob Blevins, Steve Gentry, Tony Brown, Adam Wilson, Clark Faulconer, and Steve Pauley.

Target frames were rebuilt and refaced with cardboard, extra cardboard was cut to size, shotgun wads were cleaned up, long range target frames were rebuilt, brush around the downrange road trimmed, several dead trees along the driveway into the range were cut down, gravel was moved into a large muddy area, and the grass was cut.

Thank you all for the hard work and everyone working together to accomplish these projects.

Sincerely,

Gary L. Graves

President WPGC
