Howdy All,

Well, the weatherman lied again! It did rain some but with the tents no one got wet while shooting. Great match Cody and great planning Potter. We got to debut a new target. It wasn’t one of my best stages but I had fun, better had for as long as I’ve wanted this target.

Congratulations to Cody Maverick as Overall match winner. Congrats to Flatboat Bob, Sassy and Dough Boy for shooting CAD. Can you believe Dough Boy hasn’t shot 10 matches yet and has his first CAD already.

We hope all of you had a good time. Thanks you for all of the hard work setting up and tearing down. We look forward to seeing y’all next Saturday at West Point.

Remember to keep Missouri Marshal in your prayers.

Sunday match at Mattaponi Sundowners

Howdy All Cowboys and Cowgirls,

This Sunday we will be holding a match at Mattaponi. We will be trying out a new target and are looking forward to it.  Gates will open at 1000, safety meeting at 1200 and shooting starts at 1230.

The weather isn’t looking too bad. We will have tents and fans as needed. We still will be trying to practice social distancing and wearing a mask is suggested but optional. Please do not arrive at the last minute as it makes getting posse assignments difficult.

We have an update on Missouri Marshal. He says that he is slowly improving and now able to walk around in the house without assistance of a walker. He is to see the doctor this week with hopes of getting the staples and drains removed. Please keep him and Trina in your prayers.

Looking for to seeing you Sunday.

Shoot For A Cure

Howdy Cowboys and Cowgirls,

With much thought, soul searching and knowledge; I regret having to do this but Shoot For A Cure 2020 is CANCELLED.  You all know me well enough to know that I try to be a good cowgirl but I also try to be a good nurse and the nurse and cowgirl in me tell me it’s my job to try to keep everyone I love safe.

There has been too many people this year affected by illness, loss of job or reduced hours plus the worry of the risk of illness. It is hard to practice social distancing in a match so filled with love and support. We also can’t get the shirts to sell which is a big money maker, we won’t be having an Expo at Green Top which is another big money maker and I just can’t ask for donations from someone that may be experiencing any hardships due to Covid19.

I just hope that everyone can understand that I love all of y’all too much to put anyone at risk of possible serious illness. I will do all that I can to make 2021 Shoot For A Cure a great match. I appreciate all of the hard work that goes into this match from everyone especially all that Inita Shoot and Wistful McClintock do for it but we will just have to wait another year.

Stay safe. The Mattaponi Sundowners will be shooting a match on the day that we would have had the Shoot For A Cure. We will do all that we can to make this a fun match.  I know there might be a few people that would still like to make a donation to the American Cancer Society, we will be glad to accept this and get to the proper people for you. Just make your check out to: American Cancer Society and mail to Pat Graves 3030 King William Ave. West Point, VA 23181.

With much love,

Sassy Shooting Sours

Howdy All Cowboys and Cowgirls,

It got rather warm, all right HOT, today but thanks to tents and fans it was doable. Thanks to Frontier Mick for fun stages. I thought it was a good match. We hope that y’all had fun.

Congrats to Cody Maverick as Overall Match winner. There were NO CAD shooters today.  Thanks to everyone for coming and joining us. Thanks to those that helped with set up and take down. We can’t do it without you.

The prayer list grows: please keep Missouri Marshall and Tricky Trina in your prayers especially for a speedy recovery for Marshal. Ripsaw for A Fib. He is back home after a trip to the hospital. Let’s hope that heart beats in a normal rhythm and not one of it’s own. Flatboat Bob for blood pressure issues.

Hope to see y’all soon. Stay safe and Covid19 free, keep cool and keep hydrated.

Next weekend we have matches at Pungo on Saturday and Cavalier on Sunday. Let’s support as much as we can.

Mattaponi Sundowners Saturday match

Howdy All Cowboys and Cowgirls,

Well we are going to try it again for this coming Saturday.  The weather is supposed to be a bit cooler and less humid. We plan on having tents and fans as needed.

Gates will open at 0800, safety meeting is at 0930 and shooting starts at 1000. Please don’t be waiting until the last minute to arrive as I need time to get the computers set up with your information.

We hope to see y’all there.  We will set up loading tables to best manage social distancing. Masks are very suggestive since there is an uptake in new cases of Covid19 but they are not mandatory.

Mattaponi Sundowners MATCH CANCELLATION

Howdy All Cowboys and Cowgirls,

Sunday’s weather is calling for temps of 97, high humidity and a heat index of about 110.  We hate to do this but we are cancelling the match for Sunday with the Mattaponi Sundowners. The weather is just going to be too HOT to safely have a match even with tents and fans.

Look for information next week about Saturday’s match to be held on July 25.

Please everyone stay safe, stay cool and stay hydrated!!!

Sunday Mattaponi Sundowners

Howdy All Cowboys and Cowgirls,

Ready to finally shoot a match with the Mattaponi Sundowners?  We sure hope so.  Attached are the stages for Sunday. Gates will open at 1000, safety meeting at 1200 and shooting starts at 1230.  I just checked with Nick’s, we will be able to go eat after the match. They are reserving the back room for us. Wearing a mask into the restaurant is required under Stage II of reopening. It can be removed to eat, kind of hard to eat without doing that. Hey, I didn’t say it first, your Governor did.

I didn’t want to provide water at the match as we usually do because of cross contamination but I don’t see a way around this with the temperatures in the 90’s. If you aren’t comfortable with this please bring your own water or sports drink in your own cooler.

We will try to practice social distancing. Please be mindful that you may be comfortable getting closer than 6’ but the person around you may not be, so please keep this in mind.  We strongly suggest that you wear a mask but this isn’t required.  We will set up a way for you to safely use and touch the handles (etc) the portapotty. With the Phase II in place we will not be limited to a group of 10, so we should be able to handle our normal posse` numbers.

We are looking forward to seeing our friends and Cowboy family again. We sure have missed y’all. See ya Sunday. Don’t forget this Sunday is Father’s Day, also.

Smoke On The Mattaponi

Cowboys and Cowgirls,

Well, the time has come for a decision.  The uncertainty of the Covid19 has made me decide to cancel the Smoke On The Mattaponi match.  Many factors have made this decision for me: businesses closed, unemployment up, the “Stay at Home” policy making soliciting sponsorship difficult, making plans for the luncheon, will the place where we get the awards from be open soon enough to accommodate our needs plus what phase of Virginia reopening will we be in at the time of the match. For all of these reasons it have made this event difficult to call but we do know it would not get the consideration that it deserves if we have to do everything last minute.

It has been suggested that I postpone and reschedule, but with other clubs in the same situation trying to reschedule and other clubs planning their two day matches, it’s just not going to work out.  I even tried to call SASS but they were closed, so I had to send an email.

For those who have already registered we will be contacting you to see if you want your checks back or for us to shred them.

I will be submitting the application for next years Virginia State Black Powder Shootout to SASS soon.

Hope next year we will not be in this situation and not only can we enjoy shooting the Smoke match but also all of the matches we have been missing with all of our friends (Cowboy family) in good health.

Stay safe and we hope to be seeing y’all soon.

Matches Cancelled

All matches at the West Point Gun Club have been cancelled for April and May, 2020.

Cowboy Matches

Howdy All Cowboys and Cowgirls,

We are sorry to announce that the scheduled Cowboy matches for May 17 and 23 are cancelled in accordance with the “Stay at Home” policy for the state.
We are not sure what will happen at this point to the “Smoke On the Mattaponi”. We understand that May 8th has a possibility of opening of some Non Essential businesses but as it stands now the “Stay at Home” policy will remain until June 10. Let’s keep our fingers and toes crossed that this holds out and doesn’t get extended.
Once a decision has been made, closer to the date of the match, we will notify everyone.
By the time we get to shoot again, we all may need mentors. Did you hear that our Governor said we can do “drive up gun purchases” ?
Y’all stay safe and hope to see you soon.
