Mattaponi Sundowners: Gathering Update

As promised, here’s an updated shooter’s list for the Gathering.  We had a flurry of activity yesterday, by e-mail and snail mail, putting us at 41 shooters plus 3 who might come for one day only.

It’s not too late to sign up, but if you think the mail won’t get here in time, let me or Gary know you’re coming and your category.

Mattaponi Sundowners: Saturday Results

Howdy Again,

After a cool start, it turned out to be a nice day for a Cowboy Action match.

Congratulations to our winner – Walker Colt, who also shot the match clean along with Bingo Montana, Swifty McDraw, Marshal P.C. Wabash, and Mac Moshannon.

Pungo Posse (Saturday) and Cavalier Cowboys (Sunday) have matches next weekend.

The next WPGC match is the Gathering on the Mattaponi on March 16th and 17th.  We have received quite a few registrations that are not on the shooter’s list that I sent out yesterday.  Thank you.  I’ll send an updated list soon – maybe tomorrow.

Today’s scores are attached.

Mattaponi Sundowners: Match Results

Howdy,

It was good to see a nice crowd of 16 at the range today, especially the three (Johnny Swan, Tree Doc Red, and Major Gunz) who drove quite a ways to get here and also because it didn’t get above freezing until the sun found its way out of the cloud cover.  It warmed up a little, but it was breezy off and on.  The LP heaters were a big help, but they don’t block the wind.  It seemed like half the posse had rifle issues; maybe they hadn’t thawed out well enough.

None of that bothered Dakota Rambler, who won the match.  Congratulations to Dakota and to our two clean shooters: Lefty Spurmaker and Kid At Heart.

We shoot again next Saturday.  Come join us.

Scores attached.

Mattaponi Sundowners: Gathering on the Mattaponi Details

Howdy Cowboys & Cowgirls,

The days are getting longer, the mystical groundhog has forecast an early Spring, and stages have been written for Gathering on the Mattaponi.  Shooting starts a month from today!  This is a two-day match with 6 stages on Saturday and 6 more on Sunday.  After the main match on Saturday, we’ll have a catered lunch followed by a Wild Bunch side match.  Bring ammo for 2 stages (maybe 3).  For the main match, the round count is 60-60-25 for Saturday and 60-60-16 for Sunday.

A schedule for the weekend is attached.  Note that the gates will open at 10:00 Friday for the setup crew.  Campers are welcome anytime after that.  We do not have water or electricity; it’s dry camping only.

To allow time for ordering trophies, a March 1st registration deadline has been set.  A form is attached; it can also be found at www.westpointgunclub.com.  Here’s who’s coming as of today:

By the way, single-day shooters are welcome, but are not eligible for trophies or the “free” lunch.  Send me an e-mail with your name & category, let me know which day you will be shooting, and pay our standard single-day match fee when you arrive.

If you plan to bring a non-registered guest on Saturday who plans to eat lunch, please contact Potter County Kid in advance so that he can adjust the head-count for the caterer.

Hope to see you there,
-Swifty McDraw
