It was a bit hot but the fans, tents and help from everyone the day was cooler and smoother.  THANK YOU ALL FOR THE HARD WORK!!  We would like to welcome Red Rider Slim from Roanoke to the Mattaponi Sundowners match.  We enjoyed having you with us.

CONGRATS to Cody Maverick as Overall Match winner.  CONGRATS to Cody Maverick, Cotton Connie, Major B. S. Walker, One Eyed Jane, One Eyed Rooster, Prairie City Slim, Red Cavanaugh, Sassy Shooting Sours, and Wistful McClintock for shooting CAD.  CONGRATS TO THOSE THAT DIDN’T TAKE A SHOTGUN WITH YOU ON STAGE 2 AND GETTING THE BONUS.

We also want to wish everyone HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!

Just a reminder that the Mattaponi Sundowners will be shooting the Virginia State Blackpowder Shootout next Saturday and will NOT be having our normal Saturday match.  If you haven’t signed up but would still like to attend please call Sassy at 804-370-4521 and let her know as soon as possible.  Gates open at 0800, safety meeting at 0930 and shooting starts at 1000.  Lunch is included in the match fee.

WPGC Rimfire Steel Match Scores for 06 JUN 2018

Shooters!!

We had a great match WED.  The weather was great and comradery was super.

We tried the WPGC’s new dueling tree.  Although designed for “big boy” rounds, it did well and, I think, everyone enjoyed the challenge.  I had originally intended the tree to be the last two stages, but we wanted to check it out before the match to ensure we could tell a hit had occurred.  So, rather than take it down to set it up again, we just shot those stages first.  It was a real change going back to the 18″ plates after that.

Congrats to Don Fenton as overall winner and top Open shooter and to Bryan Hood leading the Limited shooters.  Also, well done to Bob Blevins, Dick Davis, Perry Fridley, and yours truly for shooting clean.

For our next match we will celebrate the 04th of JULY!!  Should be fun!!

West Point Gun Club Double Action Match June 14 2018

The West Point Gun Club will be having their monthly Double Action match this Thursday, June 14th. The gates open at 8:00 AM, setup starts at 8:30 AM, sign up starts at 8:30 AM and shooting starts at 10:00 AM. In addition to our 6 stage Double Action match, we will be having the following:

    – 20 round J-Frame (5 shot, short barrel) stage
    – 28 round 1911 stage using Wild Bunch Rules (smaller frame carry 1911’s are OK to use)
    – We will also be shooting a 29 round stage (24 with normal DA Firearm then 5 rounds with a J-Frame) this will be one of the 6 DA stages.

If it rains we will put up tents. Also if there is time after the normal stages have been completed we may have another 1911 stage so you may want to bring extra ammo for the 1911.
 

As normal all stages are shot using adult caliber firearms (center fire) and no lasers, red dot or other optics are allowed.

WPGC Rimfire Steel Match Reminder for WED, 06 JUN

Hello Shooters!

Our next Rimfire Steel Match will be on WED, 06 JUN.  Looks like we’ll have a nice day to shoot.  Supposed to be mostly cloudy with temperatures in the mid to high 60s and moderate humidity. That’s sunburn weather!  Bring your sunscreen if you are prone to sunburn.  So hope to see you all there!

Refer to http://www.westpointgunclub.com/shooting-programs/rimfire-steel/ for a description of these matches and equipment requirements. In addition, the Open class will be available. In addition to that, the Cowboy Class will allow two Single-Action revolvers to be fired “gunfighter style” (one in each hand).

Gates open at 8:30 a.m.; match starts at 10.

14 friends gathered together today at the West Point Gun Club.

Was a beautiful day to be outdoors painting steel with lead.  Sunny and warm with reasonable humidity and a light variable breeze.

Thanks to Major BS Walker for writing 6 fun and challenging stages using a small simple layout.  Great Job BS!

Mattaponi Sundowners match 5-26-18

Howdy Cowboys and Cowgirls,

Attached are the stages for Saturday’s match, May 26,  with the Mattaponi Sundowners.  Gates will open at 0830, safety meeting at 0930 and shooting starts at 1000.  The stages were written by Major B. S. Walker. 

Don’t forget the deadline for registering for Smoke On The Mattaponi is June 8th.  Time to get those applications in.  We will have a great match to shoot and lunch is provided after the match, this is included in the match fee.  If you don’t have the applications, you can got to the WPGC web site and get it or just email us at 97graves@gmail.com and we will send it to you. We are still accepting sponsorships for the Smoke match also.
