Mattaponi Sundowners: Gathering + Side Matches

Howdy Cowboys and Cowgirls,

If you haven’t yet registered for Gathering on the Mattaponi XVI, the March 3rd deadline is rapidly approaching.  Gary will accept registrations next week at the Pungo Posse match on March 4th or at the Cavalier Cowboys match on March 5th before finalizing the list of awards to be ordered.

Single-day shooters are welcome, but are not eligible for awards.  You pay our standard match fee of $15 at the range.  It would help if you reply to this e-mail and let me know that you will (or might) be there.

Saturday-only shooters who plan to stay for the meal should notify Potter County Kid by March 5th so that he can give the caterer an accurate head count.  The meal will cost an extra $15 if you are not registered for the main match.

We will have side matches on Friday: Long Range from 12:00-2:00 on Bay 2 and Speed matches from 2:30-4:30 on Bays 1 and 3.  Long Range participants are requested to help setup Bay 2 for Saturday’s match as soon as we are done (hard limit: 2 pm).  Speed Shotgun (6 rounds) will be on Bay 1 concurrent with Speed Rifle and Speed Pistol on Bay 3.  With a hard limit of 4:30, we will then re-set Bays 1 and 3 for Saturday stages.

Long Range Rifle will include: Pistol Caliber SASS rifles, including 22LR; Single-Shot up to 45/70; and Bolt-Action with ammo loaded to a velocity of 1400 f.p.s. or less.  Rifles will be fired off-hand except Single-Shot may be fired using bench rest or shooting sticks (bring your own).  For all guns: 5 rounds; no jacketed bullets; lead only.  Rifles will be fired from 90 yards and Long Range Pistol from 60 yards, both at a steel target approximately 16″ wide and 20″ tall.  Check your sights before you come.  Spotting scopes might come in handy if you own one.

There will also be a 2-stage Wild Bunch match on Saturday after the main match and meal.  Bring extra ammo in case there is enough interest in adding a stage or two.  Participants are requested to help Cody Maverick with targets before and after the Wild Bunch match.  Targets must be converted from Saturday’s main match to a Wild Bunch configuration before you shoot, and re-set for Sunday’s main match stages when you’re finished.
