Mattaponi Sundowners match for Sunday

Howdy all Cowboys and Cowgirls,

Mattaponi Sundowners will be holding there first match of 2020 on Sunday.  Gates will open at 1000, safety meeting at 1200 and shooting starts at 1230.  The weather looks dry but cold so dress warm.

Attached are the stages for Sunday’s match.  The registration form for The Gathering On The Mattaponi is all attached.  Prairie City Slim is busy at work to have another great match for us.  Please get your application in, don’t wait until the last minute, please.  Follow the directions as where to send it and all other information you might need at this point.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday.

Howdy All,

Sorry for the delay in getting the scores out but the computers said they synced the scores but they lied! We had to do the scores the old fashioned way. Well, it was a nice day for shooting (for some of us).  The weather was nice and it was great having y’all with us to celebrate our Christmas match. Glad to see Ripsaw back with us.  We welcomed an old shooter to being new again, Black Jack Bill.

Congrats to Cody Maverick as Overall match winner. Congrats to One Eyed Jane, Beartooth, Kid At Heart and Ripsaw for shooting CAD.

We enjoyed a nice dinner and gift exchange at Nick’s. It was really nice to have Miss Clementine and Remo join us for dinner and the gift exchange. Glad to see both of them in good health.

WE WISH YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Mattaponi Sundowners match for Sunday

Howdy All Cowboys and Cowgirls,

The Mattaponi Sundowners will be holding their Christmas match on Sunday, Dec. 15.  The stages are written by Cody Maverick and attached.  The gates will open at 1000, safety meeting at 1200 and shooting starts at 1230.

With this being our Christmas match. After the match is complete we will be going to Nick’s for dinner and a Chinese gift exchange. It’s simple, if you bring a gift you get a gift and the gift exchange is not mandatory to join us for dinner.  Please have the gift Cowboy related and a maximum of $25.  If you want to join us for the dinner and gift exchange but not able to shoot, please email me at 97graves@gmail.com, or text/call me at 804-370-4521. If I don’t answer, please leave a message.  This will help me to give Nick’s a correct head count for dinner.

We hope that you will be able to join us.  The weather, at this point, is looking ok with no rain and 55.

It was a bit cool but even I didn’t need a coat until the last 2 stages and not a drop of rain.

Congrats to Cody Maverick as Overall match winner. Congrats to Cody Maverick, Flatboat Bob and Sassy for shooting CAD.  It was a great and fun match with a little thinking required (ain’t just saying cuz Potter wrote it). It was great!

We at Mattaponi Sundowners wish all of you a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!  Remember our service men and women that can’t be home with this holiday and say a little pray for them.  If you are traveling please drive safe.

Mattaponi Sundowners will be holding a match this Saturday.  The match was written by Potter County Kid and will be fun.

Gates will open at 0800, safety meeting at 0930 and shooting starts at 1000.

We will have tents set up as needed.  If the weather starts to look too bad to hold the match will be send out an email .Friday evening with information.

We are hoping all goes well and we’ll see you Saturday.

Howdy All Cowboys and Cowgirls,

Well another one is in the books.  It was a rather cold today especially with the wind, for most of us that is, I admit I was chicken and stayed in the truck all day. We didn’t have many today but the ones we had were brave and tough.

Congrats to Cody Maverick as Overall match winner. Congrats to Flatboat Bob, Beartooth, Kuba Kid and One Eyed Jane for shooting CAD. 

This is a unusual month and we will be having a 4th Saturday match before Thanksgiving. More information will be coming later in the week. 

Hope to see you next Saturday at West Point and Sunday there will be a match at Pepper Mill Creek.

Sunday, November 17, the Mattaponi Sundowners will have their match.  Weather will be better than it was at “Shoot For A Cure” but it will be a little cool.  Registration will be from Potter’s truck so please come there to let me know you are there.  This match was written by Ripsaw and sure to be fun.

Shoot For A Cure

Howdy All,

Well, this day is over and Shoot For A Cure 2019 is history.  Well it was one for the books; had plenty of cowboys and cowgirls show up to shoot and some willing to shoot in spite of the rain, no match shot and money raised.  What a weird day!!  I’m sorry for the rain and no match but I can’t control the weather.  I don’t mind shooting from cows or horses but we would have needed ducks today.  I knew we were in trouble of having the match when I looked behind and saw a river flowing from bay 2 into bay 1.

It was so good to see Cotton Connie today.  Please continue to keep her close at heart and in prayers.  Oh, Kuba, what can I say?  I was beautiful and thank you so very much for 2 such fitting songs. Flatboat, thank you for the pray, it was wonderful.  Beyond this I’m not naming more names because I will leave someone very important out.  All of you that have worked so hard to make this a success from buying and donating the items, selling items to everything in between; I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

This match, as I’ve said, isn’t about me but about the people and the cause.  It’s a cause that has touched all of us in one way or another.  We must continue the fight to helps those that need it, to find the advancements and a cure.  Y’ALL ARE AMAZING!!!!  YOU TRULY ARE A FAMILY even had little squabbles like kids but we do love one another.

It’s so weird to have a match but not be announcing scores or clean shooters but I will announce that as of this moment we raised $13,000+.  We have a little more money to come.  When I have the official total I will send it out. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!  I LOVE EACH OF YOU!!

Time for a hot bath and a little TV then bed, may skip TV and just go to bed.

Shoot For A Cure

Howdy All,

Well, the time is here.  I thank you for the great response with early registration.  If you haven’t signed up but would like to shoot please email gambler.kb@gmail.com . She will need your name, alias, category.

The gates will open at 0900. Ceremony to start at 1145 with safety meeting included.  At 1230 we will start with the 21 gun salute to the survivors and those that have gone on before us.

PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE!  WE NEED YOU TO COME TO THE REGISTRATION TABLE AS SOON AS YOU ARRIVE JUST SO WE CAN MARK YOU OFF THE SHOOTERS LIST.

Attached are the stages and story line for the match.  There isn’t much I can say now that hasn’t already been said.  It’s up to all of us to make this a successful match.  In case you don’t read the stages, there will be pistol reload but not to worry, it can be done anytime after the first round is fired.    Please come out and join us at this special match.  Bring your wallet ot your checkbook, you may see something that you can’t live without.

Welcome to the West Point Gun Club

This website is the online home of the West Point Gun Club.

The West Point Gun Club (WPGC) is located about 6 miles outside of West Point, Virginia. We hold monthly SASS Cowboy Action Shooting, Double Action Steel, High Power Rifle and Rimfire Steel matches that are open to the public, otherwise the range is reserved for it’s members and their guests and is not open to the public.

WPGC is currently at our membership capacity limit, perspective members will be placed on a waiting list.  In order to be placed on the waiting list prospective member must submit a completed application along with all of the supporting documentation,  see the Membership Section of this web site for additional details.  Prospective members will be processed in the order that the completed applications are received when openings are available.
