WPGC – Gathering on the Mattaponi – Sat. & Sun. March 18th & 19th, 2017

Cowboys & Cowgirls,

The Mattaponi Sundowners will be holding their annual two day Club Championship match this Saturday & Sunday, March 18th & 19th, at the West Point Gun Club.

This year is the 10th Anniversary of the Gathering on the Mattaponi. The theme for the match is to celebrate 10 years of Gathering on the Mattaponi matches by reshooting 12 stages from our past. So, we have went through the stages from all 10 years and have selected 12 stages that were previously used in a Gathering on the Mattaponi match and revised them for this years match. If you have been shooting with us for awhile, you will have an advantage of having shot all of these stages before.

If you are not already registered for the match and want to shoot this weekend you have three options, 1) You can pay the $50 registration fee on Saturday morning and shoot in the Cowboy category as well as take part in the side matches, Saturday lunch and be eligible for the match awards but you will not receive a shooters handbook nor name badge, 2) You can pay $15 for Saturday only and you can shoot in any category but you will not be eligible for awards, nor side matches, nor lunch and you will not receive a shooters handbook, and 3) You can pay $15 for Sunday only with all the same qualifiers as Saturday only.

Weather: – We will hold the match rain or shine. Depending on how you tickle your mouse, the long range forecast shows a different forecast but there is a possibility of some rain. If there is rain in the forecast come Friday we will setup all of our tents and be able to keep everyone reasonable dry even if it does rain.

Start Times: – We will be using our regular Saturday and Sunday start times. Saturday the gates will open at 8:00, registration runs from 8:30 till 9:30, mandatory safety meeting at 9:30 and the match starts shooting at 10:00. Sunday the gates will open at 10:00, registration runs from 10:30 till 12:00 Noon, No safety meeting on Sunday, and the match starts shooting at 12:30.

Round Counts: – The round count for the match is 120 Rifle, 120 Pistol and 52+ shotgun, all of this not counting side matches. There will be a Texas Star shot with the rifle and there will be a few pistol knockdowns.

Shooters Handbook (Stages): – The stages will NOT be sent out ahead of time via email. Every registered shooter will receive a Shooters Handbook with the stages printed in it. The handbooks will be available at the range on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday Lunch: – We will have a hamburger and hot dog lunch available for all registered shooters on Saturday after we finish shooting the main match stages for Saturday.

Side Matches: – This year the side matches are being run by Cody Maverick. The side matches will take place on Saturday after we have eaten lunch. After we have completed the speed / close in side matches we will clear the 100 yard range and reset for the long range side matches. If you have any questions about the side matches, please contact Cody Maverick directly at cody.maverick@earthlink.net.

Awards: – The Side Match Awards, Overall Top Shooter Awards, Clean Match Awards and Category Awards will be given out on Sunday after the main match has finished and the range is cleaned up.
