Mattaponi Sundowners: Saturday Match

Howdy all,

The Mattaponi Sundowners will be hosting our 4th Saturday match this coming Saturday January 28, 2023. The stages have been written by Major BS Walker and are sure to be fun and challenging. The gates will open at 8:00, safety meeting at 9:30, and first round downrange at 10:00. The weather is looking pretty good for February. A little cool in the morning, but warming up nicely to the mid fiftys and mostly sunny.

Now on to some important news. Prairie City Slim is going to be undergoing hernia repair surgery on Thursday January 26. Please keep Prairie City Slim and One Eyed Jane in your thoughts and prayers.

Mattaponi Sundowners: Side Match Details

The attachment provides details for the Side Matches planned for Gathering on the Mattaponi XVI.
 
There are some side matches that we will not be able to provide due to scheduling constraints and limitations of our range facilities.  We will not have any “rifle caliber” categories and we will not have Pocket Pistol or Derringer.
 
We will have people setting up targets and props for the main match before the Long Range match and they will have to clear the range before it starts.  There will be a hard limit on the end of that event because they have to set up Bay 2 for Saturday while we use Bay 3 for the Speed event.  There will also be a hard limit on the end of that because some re-arrangement of targets and props might be required.
 
With that in mind, shooters may be limited in the number of attempts allowed.

WPGC Double Action Match Results

Beautiful weather yesterday for a mid-January match. The category winners are:

We had plenty of M’s and P’s to go around. There will be two DA matches at SCSC in Waverly this month. The first is Thursday, January 26 and the fifth Sunday of the month, January 29. 

Mattaponi Sundowners: Sunday January 15 Match

Howdy All,

The Mattaponi Sundowners will be hosting a match this coming Sunday January 15th. The match has been written by Ripsaw and looks to be a good fun match. The gates open at 10:00, Safety meeting at 12:00, and first round downrange at 12:30. Hope to see you all there.

Gathering on the Mattaponi, our annual 2 day match will be here before we know it. The match dates are March 18 and 19. We may also be adding side matches on Friday the 17th. The Wild Bunch mini match will still be held on Saturday after the picnic. The applications are available on the West Point Gun Club website (www.westpointgunclub.com). Swifty McDraw will be sending out more details soon. Please get your apps in as soon as possible.

WPGC, Double Action Match

I hope everyone got plenty of ammo and a new shootin’ iron for Christmas. Now is the time to come out and shoot the DA match this Thursday, January 12, 2023. Gates will open at 08:30 and the format will be the same: 6 stages of main frame revolver, one of which will include a J-frame at the end. One J-frame only stage and one 1911 stage. I would appreciate it if you could let me know if you plan to attend. If we manage to have six or more, I can make the stages a bit more involved. If we have 4 or five we can have a steel challenge or a minimal match with fewer targets.

Mattaponi Sundowners: Dec 18th Scores

Howdy Cowboys, Cowgirls, and friends of the Cowboy Action Shooting sport.
 
The Mattaponi Sundowners closed out the 2022 season with our annual Christmas match today.  Potter County Kid wrote the match and had the targets painted and decorated nicely for Christmas.  Congratulations to Dakota Rambler for the win and to Lefty Spurmaker, Marshal P. C. Wabash, and Poney Racer for shooting clean.  I hope everyone scored high on the “fun meter” scale; thanks for coming.  As always, thanks to those who helped during the match and to those who helped set it up and tear it down.  Very special thanks for the LP gas space heaters.
 
After the match, we filled up a room at Nick’s to have dinner, followed by an interesting exchange of gifts.  You bring a gift, pick one when it’s your turn, and wait until somebody takes it away from you.  Around and around it goes until nothing is left under the Christmas tree.
 
Next month, we resume our normal schedule with matches on the 3rd Sunday and 4th Saturday in January and February.  We’re already making plans for our 16th Anniversary “Gathering on the Mattaponi” match on the weekend of March 18-19.  Hope to see you there.

WPGC Double Action Cancellation

The WPGC DA match scheduled for tomorrow is cancelled. It looks like, RAIN, RAIN, and more RAIN. Dang! We will hope for more agreeable weather next month.
