Mattaponi Sundowners: Future Matches

You’re probably tired of hearing from me by now, but I’m sending this anyway.

Gathering on the Mattaponi kicks off the Spring season for us.  It was a little cool this year.  I’m told that it had something to do with a groundhog that dropped the thermometer about 10-15 degrees below normal.  I’m not complaining because it wasn’t raining and we didn’t have to set up tents.  A nasty storm passed to the south of us but left enough of a breeze to keep the blackpowder folks happy.

In early summer, WPGC hosts the SASS Virginia State Blackpowder Shootout (Smoke on the Mattaponi).  It will be on Saturday June 24th this year.  Visit www.westpointgunclub.com for information and a registration form.

In the fall, we have our annual charity match.  All proceeds, including match fees from members and guests, go to the American Cancer Society.  In loving memory of Sassy Shooting Sours, late wife of Potter County Kid, the match has officially been renamed THE PAT GRAVES MEMORIAL SHOOT FOR A CURE.  Mark Sunday October 15th on your calendar.

For Cowboy Action shooters new to us, we have matches every month on the 3rd Sunday and 4th Saturday, hot or cold, rain or shine, unless conditions would be too dangerous to be running around in the mud or snow.  Other exceptions: we support Thunder in the Brush at Black Creek (May 20-21) and Sussex County Range War with the Pungo Posse (Oct 20-22).  And don’t forget the SASS Virginia State Championship, the Gunfight at the Double-C hosted by the Cavalier Cowboys on Labor Day weekend.

Howdy Cowboys and Cowgirls,

On behalf of the West Point Gun Club and the Mattaponi Sundowners, I hope that all who attended this year’s iteration of our annual 2-day match enjoyed it as much as I did.

It is each and every one of you, the shooters, who make the match what it is.  Thanks again for coming and we hope to see you again next year.

There are four attachments: 1) clean shooters; 2) scores by category; 3) score summary; and 4) detailed scores.

Mattaponi Sundowners: Who’s Coming #4

Howdy,

We have 48 shooters registered for the March 18-19 Gathering on the Mattaponi match.

They are listed in two attachments, one sorted by category and the other alphabetically by posse.  Posse assignments are not final; check in as soon as you arrive on the 18th for confirmation.

If you plan to join us, and your name is not on the list, please let me know or give Gary a call.  I have Missouri Marshal down for a ‘maybe’ on Sunday.  Drifter McCoy was on an early version of the list, but a schedule conflict forced him to drop out.

Hi All,

First all thanks to everyone for being patient with me. It was quite a stressful day and evening for me.
Jane and I seem to be no worse for wear. Sorry we were late getting there then having 4 strings that made us even later.

I want to welcome John Askew to our Rim Fire Steel match (22’s) at West Point Gun Club. I sure hope you will join us again. Jane is checking on the website email list for you and will email you when it is fixed.

Scores are attached.
Congrats to Don Fenton as overall winner and open winner, Brian Hood was our limited winner and Kidd at Heart took the Cowboy category.

Thanks for all the help with setup, changing out the stages and tear down.

See you next month,
Slim
